Software tools for visual analysis : an overview and demonstration of options

11am – 3pm, CEC suite, Senate House (including buffet lunch)This session will provide a overview and discussion of the tools available in leading CAQDAS (Computer Assisted Qualitative Data AnalysiS) packages for analysing still and moving images. The following packages will be covered: ATLAS.ti version 6, Digital Replay System, MAXqda version 10, NVivo version 8 and Transana version 2.4. The session will comprise discussion and demonstration, with working research projects being illustrated live within selected software. We will discuss data preparation and handling, transcription tools, analytic and (re)presentation tools. The session will be practical, illustrating the ease with which tools can be manipulated as well as discussing their analytic functionality.
